hanukkah 2021

Second Annual Menorah Lighting

Wednesday, November 17, 2021

Each night of Hanukkah we will be lighting our inspiring nine foot outdoor menorah on the side patio of Unity Temple on the Plaza at the corner of West 47th Street and Jefferson across the street from Bo Lings Chinese Restaurant. Garage parking is available on the west side of Unity Temple.

The eight menorah lightings will take place each night starting the evening of November 28 and ending the evening December 5. All lightings will take place at 6:00 pm except for Friday, December 3 which will be held at 4:00 pm. We are planning for our lighting ceremony to be about 15-20 minutes. Come enjoy singing together and leave with Hanukkah gelt and jelly donuts!

We are asking all people who attend to bring food items to support the clients of Operation Breakthrough. Suggested items are pasta, canned spaghetti sauce, rice, boxed mac and cheese, canned soups and canned vegetables.

Prior reservations are requested. So, we may give all our members an opportunity to attend, please sign up for no more than one night at a time. Because of limited space, there is a 30 people limit for each night. If more spaces are available, you will be contacted.

Signup at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0D48A4A72DA4F85-second for your choice of evening. Please contact the temple office if you have any questions.

Rabbi Levinsky Sermon: May 22

Today is Shavuot, a holiday I had no idea existed before a Jewish Studies course in college. Even rabbis have a learning curve. This holiday, which is traditionally the day the Torah was given at Sinai, teaches us that joy is not separate from spiritual life. In Jewish tradition, revelation is not only something that […]

Rabbi Levinsky Sermon: May 1

Tonight, we dedicate our new Torah covers. What exactly does dedication mean in the Jewish tradition? You may be surprised, but the Hebrew word for “dedication” is Chanukah. In Judaism, it marks a beginning. The rededication of the Temple after it was desecrated by the Greeks in the Chanukkah story. The dedication of a home, Chanukat HaBayit. […]
