Tashlich at Loose Park

Monday, September 16, 2024

The New Reform Temple will be joined by Congregation B’nai Jehudah in celebrating the Rosh Hashanah tradition of Tashlich on the afternoon of Rosh Hashanah (Thursday, October 3) at 5 pm. We are joining together as two congregations to affirm the need for a unified Jewish community.

Traditionally during Tashlich, Jews go to a body of running water and throw the crumbs into the water while reciting special passages of scripture and prayers. The crumbs are meant to represent the sins we’ve been carrying around with us throughout the year. Throwing them into the water represents our hope that we can take our sins, ask forgiveness of God and one another, and then cast them away.  (We will be using fish food so that we are ecologically sensitive.)

This event will be joyful. We cast our sins, share in some music, and eat ice cream from Golden Scoop. We also have something special to give to our families. Make a reservation so that we have enough ice cream for everyone.
