Rabbi Levinksy Sermon: August 8
Every Shabbat, we recite the Shema and V’ahavta. But what exactly does it mean when we say “Hear O Israel, Adonai is our God, Adonai is one”? What does it mean when we say “You shall love Adonai your God with all your Heart, with all your soul, and with all your might”? This Shabbat, I’ll offer a few answers to those questions. I’ll discuss what the classical rabbis say, what Moses Maimonides says, and what the Kabbalists say about these important prayers.
