Rabbi Levinsky Sermon: October 3

Wednesday, October 8, 2025

Shabbat invites us to rediscover balance. All week, we run, pulled toward deadlines, worries, and demands. We overdo or hold back, speak too much or stay too silent. Tonight, Shabbat reminds us that holiness is not found in extremes but in the middle path. The wisdom of Rabbi Simcha Bunim, who taught us to carry two slips of paper: one declaring, “For my sake the world was created,” and the other, “I am but dust and ashes,” enlightens us. Between them lies the truth. Shabbat is our weekly practice of balance—between work and rest, self and community, striving and gratitude. Shabbat Shalom.

Rabbi Levinsky Sermon: May 22

Today is Shavuot, a holiday I had no idea existed before a Jewish Studies course in college. Even rabbis have a learning curve. This holiday, which is traditionally the day the Torah was given at Sinai, teaches us that joy is not separate from spiritual life. In Jewish tradition, revelation is not only something that […]
