Rabbi Levinsky Sermon: March 6
Humility
We live in a culture that encourages us to highlight our accomplishments and place ourselves at the center of the story. Jewish tradition often points in another direction. In Pirkei Avot, Rabbi Levitas of Yavneh teaches: “Be very, very humble of spirit.” Humility does not mean diminishing ourselves. It means remembering that life is not only about us. Sometimes the most meaningful moments come when we simply turn our attention outward, when we listen, notice, and show kindness in ordinary encounters. These small gestures rarely receive recognition, yet they quietly shape our families and communities. May this Shabbat help us rediscover the quiet strength of humility and the grace of making room for others.
